Overview EW-Maps is a web application designed to visualize the network aspects of European ITS and pro vides a basis for a comprehensive content management for planning and impact information. It is the first GIS to document and analyse ITS deployment on a European Scale and can be used without particular expertise by all corridor partners or other EIP+activities. EW-Maps supports the administration of projects, increases the significance of reporting and guides analysis. It is based on data sets produced in the framework of the EW program and will also use data from the Commissions TEN-TEC database. The users of EW-Maps can set rules for publication of their data on a pan-European scale.
The EW-Maps Tool
EW-Maps is an easy-to-use web GIS. It stores, organises and visualises the location and basic attributes of all network sections concerned by ITS. EW-Maps has been developed with open source tools and according to principles agreed by all EW-partners. It can be used through a simple Web browser and allows partners in ITS projects to process project information in the context of a comprehensive network view. EW-Maps harmonises the representation, input and display of network information and supports reports about this inventory and to look for its statistical properties.
EW-Maps Benefits EW-Maps was launched by EU Memberstates who found that organising their data through maps is more efficient than just lists and text and can help explore hidden properties and relationships. EW-Maps also standardises the reporting of various projects and facilitates European wide follow-up of ITS on the TERN. The major benefits are:
All projects and their activities can be referenced and located in a harmonised way
Reports and thematic maps have to be developed only once
European- wide data (e.g. TEN-TEC, congestion from FCD) can be introduced in one go
Cross Corridor benchmarks become possible
Preparation/Application can based on existing results, even if partnership changes
Re-Use and easy-update of Operating Environment-Data or traffic related data
Today EW-Maps already contains information on various projects regarding location and network concerned, operating environments or other ITS-related data. The approach and the software proved its usability in the framework of the EW-programme. In the framework of EIP+a major revision and improvement has been tasked notably to increase reporting options.
EW-Maps within EIP+ Within EIP+ the following tasks have been accomplished:
Agreement between Member States and participating projects on rules, network, technology and functionality of the EW Map system
EW Map availability for the entire duration of the EIP+ and Corridor activities; at least bi-monthly telephone conferences and continuous helpdesk for all EW Map users
Providing instructions on usage on the website and holding at least two online workshops (webinars) for both new and experienced users
Mid-term workshop to discuss the projects results and user experience made so far (3rd September 2015)
System update and augmented features in response to requirements arising from the users feedback and the mid-term review workshop
Annual visualisation on the ITS deployment progress, based on the results from the of ITS Corridor projects (Works)
Participation at meetings of other technical groups and ITS Corridor projects (at least once for each group)
