The objectives of the workshop are:
- Present the status of the EW-Maps application
- Explain the benefits the tool can bring to the corridor projects and other European ITS projects
- Take up the requirements and feedback from corridor projects
- Optimise the usage of EW-Maps for the current and for future projects
Part 1: Overview and general topics
GIS are playing a growing role for ITS projects and many national GIS databases exist already, that contain data relevant for ITS. EW-Maps is located on the strategic level: it’s not an asset management system and will not provide data about single infrastructure elements but structure its content according to network elements and sections. However it can provide extra insight on the need and state of ITS on the TERN. There is a request to enrich EW-Maps with information about the TEN-relevance of certain sections, in particular their association with the core, comprehensive or CEF-corridor networks. . Vice versa, ITS information may be displayed in the TEN-TEC viewer. The TEN-TEC system of the EC is presented and options to connect the EW-Maps are discussed. EW-Maps will guard the principle of national responsibility which can be coordinated by corridor projects and other pan-European projects.
Part 2: Corridor presentations
Arc-Atlantique, Next-ITS and Ursa Major present their approach concerning GIS-support and map
related information. (see presentations). The representative of CROCODILE could not participate but has sent the presentation. It is stated that the support for reporting according to the Decisions and contracts, the minimum program, is the most urgent issue. Beyond that each corridor and also other EIP+ activities (like on VMS) have specific use cases.
Part 3: Features, Functions and Helpdesk
The current system status and developments are presented. The concept of network groups and
attributes allows to accommodate for particular use cases but also to safeguard a harmonised usage of common categories. The network helpdesk is now ready to distribute a new set of credentials and will support all users on the update of the network, the definition and adding of groups and attributes.
Conclusions:
All corridors are urged to define their needs for attributes and groups and communicate by Sep. 30. If any conflicts arise or chances for harmonisation exist the EW-Maps team will discuss and come back to the respective corridor(s). Other EIP+ sub-activities or pan-European projects are free to define proposals for thematic groups and section-wise attributes and attribute categories. They are also requested to come up with proposals by Sep. 30. EW-Maps will be promoted by a leaflet and at the conferences in Bordeaux (ITS world) and Rome (EIP+ annual forum).
